Message from the Superintendent - PowerSchool Update

Message from the Superintendent - PowerSchool Update

Dear Central Islip School Community,

As you are aware, transparency and the safety of our students, staff and families remain top priorities for our district. As such, I am writing to inform you of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the district’s Student Information System, and to assure you of the security of our district's data.

The district was alerted that in late December, PowerSchool became aware of a potential cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain customer data. Through their investigation, PowerSchool determined that an unauthorized party gained access to employee and student personal information in several school districts by exploiting a compromised credential.

After a thorough review of our logs and access records, I am pleased to report that Central Islip’s PowerSchool SIS servers, hosted by BOCES, were not breached. Our district was not affected by this incident, and no unauthorized access or compromise of our student or staff information occurred.

While this incident did not impact Central Islip, it serves as an important reminder of the need for vigilance in safeguarding sensitive information. We continue to work closely with BOCES and PowerSchool to ensure the highest levels of security and to monitor for any potential threats to our systems.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust as we work together to provide a safe and secure environment for our students and staff.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sharon Dungee
Superintendent of Schools
Central Islip School District
