Musketeer Monday: Yerley Cortez

Musketeer Monday: Yerley Cortez

Introducing Mulvey Elementary School sixth-grade student Yerly Cortez, featured in this week's Musketeer Monday spotlight.

Yerly enjoys his school studies, especially science and what he calls the “cool experiments” that come with it. When asked about homework, Yerly shared, “Homework is easy, and I like it—depending on the subject.”

A talented athlete, Yerly excels in soccer, playing both left back and center back positions alongside his teammates. His favorite principal is—of course—Mr. MacMonigle, and he gave a special shout-out to his fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Grabowski.

Yerly’s favorite holidays include Christmas and New Year's Eve, which he enjoys spending with his entire family gathered around for the countdown. He also enjoys Halloween. At home, he loves spending time with his black cat, Star, and says his favorite food is chicken teriyaki.

Yerly proudly represents Mulvey Elementary School as a member of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee’s Student Council Roundtable. On the importance of this role, he said, “This is an important job because we get to make decisions for our school to make things better.”

When asked who his role model is, Yerly confidently replied, “Myself, because I believe I can achieve anything with the right mentality and mindset.”

Mulvey Elementary Principal Mr. Brett MacMonigle shared his thoughts on Yerly, his 'Principal’s Choice' for Musketeer Monday:
“Yerly Cortez is a model student who is engaged in his school studies as well as in sports, where he is an avid soccer player. He serves as an exemplary representative for his friends and colleagues at Mulvey Elementary School as a member of Dr. Dungee’s Student Council Roundtable. Yerly is just a great, modest student who always strives to do his best. He is always considerate of others, and we are happy that he is a member of our Mulvey Elementary School Family.”
