Spanish teachers Rocio Fernández, Yvette Brideau and Tracey McDonald bring culture alive in Reed Spanish classes.
El Día de los Muertos/the day of the dead is a traditional fiesta in honor of deceased relatives and close friends. The holiday is celebrated in Mexico and other parts of Latin America on Nov. 1 and 2. Families gather together and reminisce and tell stories about their loved ones who are no longer here. In preparation they dress in bright happy colors to demonstrate love and respect for deceased friends and family members. Revelers often wear masks, colorful makeup, and costumes. They hold parades, parties, sing, dance, and make offerings to honor deceased loved ones.
